Title: HCR Ride distance Post by: SteveB on February 27, 2011, 06,09:04 PM So I've scoured the forum looking for approximate ride distances, so as not to ask another silly question, but I've given up!
What sort of distances are we looking at, and are there re-fuel stops? Thanks Title: Re: HCR Ride distance Post by: Mat R on February 27, 2011, 06,37:30 PM The Saturday ride is planned at between 150 and 165 km, with a fuel top up at no more than 100km. So it is recommended that you carry enough fuel for at least 100km.
That is not as much as many would first think. On a CRF250X with standard tank I topped up with 2L that I carried in my backpack and still comfortably made it around the whole loop without even hitting reserve. On the 2T they did need a fuel top up but not by much. On Sunday the rides are under 100km before coming back to Abbeyard so you can refuel in between. Title: Re: HCR Ride distance Post by: SteveB on February 27, 2011, 07,13:02 PM You might not remember Mat, but I did my first ride with AMTRA at your Cobaw, last last year. And after doing both the level one and two loops for the day, I hit reserve on the way back to the carpark!
I think I do about 120 K's to the 12L tank on my KTM 300, so I should go ok! Thanks mate, see you at the HCR! Title: Re: HCR Ride distance Post by: Jayt_dee on March 09, 2011, 06,09:06 PM Sorry for my ignorance if this question has already been asked but was wondering what the route will be this year? Think i heard a rumour that the fuel/lunch stop will be at Whitfield???
Title: Re: HCR Ride distance Post by: Brad on March 09, 2011, 06,22:38 PM We are not going to Whitfield rumor is not valid.
Assume 100K's between refuels and if the course is longer than that we provide some fuel to get you home. Most 4T bikes do 120K's and the 2T's should aim to do 100K's. If its shorter like Sunday you need to supply your own refuel at the property between rides. Title: Re: HCR Ride distance Post by: Jayt_dee on March 09, 2011, 07,08:11 PM So does this mean the route is a secret or is unknown yet?
Title: Re: HCR Ride distance Post by: Brad on March 09, 2011, 07,45:22 PM No its not its just due to the rains there are track closures which we need to work with, for those who attend the route will be arrowed.
Title: Re: HCR Ride distance Post by: Jayt_dee on March 09, 2011, 08,00:27 PM So does this mean the lunch stop location is yet to be confirmed?

Title: Re: HCR Ride distance Post by: Ian Robinson on March 09, 2011, 08,12:47 PM So does this mean the lunch stop location is yet to be confirmed? We will have distances after this weekend. The route is planned but has had minor changes due to track closures so we cant give exact distances until the course is ridden this weekend. Title: Re: HCR Ride distance Post by: Peter r on March 09, 2011, 09,31:41 PM Im not gay or bi....just curious! Title: Re: HCR Ride distance Post by: Mat R on March 10, 2011, 04,45:28 PM It was going to be Whitfield, but that did not work out. We have a route but it is still being finalised with DSE and PV, so still subject to change.
Plus we like to try and make it a surprise. ;D Regards Mat. Title: Re: HCR Ride distance Post by: Jayt_dee on March 10, 2011, 05,41:58 PM Cool bananas

Title: Re: HCR Ride distance Post by: Ken R on March 19, 2011, 06,32:41 PM With the arrowed course will the arrows be non reversible ie printed on one side only and on a stake into the ground is one way or have the words LEFT or RIGHT or AMTRA that should not be upside down. The last arrowed ride Tony Kirby did was ruined by insurgents turning arrows and Tony was out till 3pm rounding up the lost riders. You guys probably have it covered already.
Title: Re: HCR Ride distance Post by: Frankie-boy on March 19, 2011, 08,25:57 PM The Arrows are reversible,I've done quite a few enduro's, the only time we had a problem was with a farmer, when we had a meeting at Warrenbayne, it seemed that he didn't like ppl riding passed his property, he didn't turn the Arrows the wrong way, he just pulled them down at the start of the loop, the start was delayed by 2 hours, other then that never had a problem.
I wish you didn't bring that up Ken, now we've got another thing to worry about. Title: Re: HCR Ride distance Post by: Ken R on March 21, 2011, 05,22:26 PM There is one unhappy farmer that we know about at Abbeyard and better to bring it up now me thinks. The easiest way is to mark the arrow with letters to back up the direction ie LEFT, RIGHT, SO etc and the punters have to know the letters displayed should not be upside down or turned, if they are they should wait for sweeps to confirm direction. Sweeps should have maps and spare arrows/staples etc.
Hope this helps. Title: Re: HCR Ride distance Post by: Frankie-boy on March 21, 2011, 07,14:33 PM That's a good idea Ken, I'm not the one doing the arrowing, so I guess it's up to the ppl that are.
Title: Re: HCR Ride distance Post by: Ian Robinson on March 21, 2011, 07,28:18 PM I dont think the course is going near the grumpy farmer!
