In the week leading up to this ride I had to sort a few bike issues out, while changing the front brake pads the retaining pin sheered off, so the calliper had to be removed and the pin machined out and re tapped, on a previous ride I had managed to put a hole in one of my radiators, found out on Friday the replacement was going to be a no show, so I patched the hole with radiator repair putty.
All of this was forgotten as eleven riders geared up at Moondarra reservoir the weather was perfect, shortly in to the ride Paul had bike problems and had to return to the car park, Zeb had given Paul a lift to the ride so he pulled the pin as well.

The rest of the ride went smoothly, the hill on F11W gave me a bit of grief, you know things aren’t going to plan when the tail man comes back down the hill to see if you need a hand (thanks’ Al).

Also lost a bit of time when my bum bag came off, Matt and I back tracked and found it. So we didn’t get to all the tracks I had planned for the day, will have to wait till next time.

Couldn’t have had a better group of riders for my 1st outing as ride leader, thanks guys for all your help, thanks Al for am tail and Matt for pm tail.

 Cheers,
 Gary.

PS Dennis you can stop laughing now!

Congratulations Gary, on putting on your first AMTRA ride.  Glad it went (relatively) well.

Here's hoping it's the first of many to come.

Very well done for your first effort as a ride leader! it different from being tailman and carrys different preasures. Any help myself or the others gave for the day was well repaid with the ride. would have been nice to do the planned loop, but daylight is the biggest hurdle this time of year. And im glad you made it up the hill on F11W, because i was not looking forward to riding the smoker up that hill. Had a good day and a good crew. See you on the next one and well done again, Al |

Good on you Garry, the first ride you put on is also the most stressful its gets easier from now on. Any ride you dont need to call the ambos for is a good one! Wade |

Nice one Garry, considering that you hadn't been in the area for almost 4 years, you did a good job at finding your way around. Thanks for chucking in all those logs, bog holes, steep ups, steep downs, up creeks, down creeks, ruts, etc. Thanks to the tails, Al and Mat, and Mat how you ride that CR500 all day is beyond me, I do believe you tried to palm it off to others with no success... |

Sorry i didnt make this one Garry, but others may not know while following the navmans directions to get to the dam i found meself in a bit of a pickle. Basically bogged in the middle of no-where. Lucky i had the bike on the back, so unloaded and went off in search of help. A local cocky got me out after about two and a half hours with the help of two of his neighbours and would not take any financial reward. I'll make sure i drop him off a couple of slabs next time i'm in that area. You'll be glad to know i did make it to the Dam at about 2.30 for a look see.
Anyway hope to make me AMTRA debut soon.

P.S Navman put away and Vicroad map put in car.

You mean no one would swap with him for a while ? If I was there mate, you know I would have given you a rest on it for a while and swapped bikes with you for at least, 10 minutes      |
